The Brief

This Manchester video production case study begins with a bold, world-first ambition.

The Greater Manchester Wellbeing Series set out to unite workspaces across the city through a series of running, walking and meditation events in 2026. The goal wasn’t just sign-ups. It was transformation and movement that celebrated the people, culture and resilience of Manchester itself.

But there was a creative tension at the heart of it.

How do you combine something as dynamic and high-energy as running with something as serene and introspective as meditation – in a single, cohesive brand film?

And how do you do that without the video production becoming too corporate, safe or dry?

The initial instinct was to create two types of content: one corporate-facing for employers and one emotive, human-led film for participants. This was understandable, but fragmented and more costly.

Our suggestion was different – start with people and build trust through real workplaces with real human stories. Because when wellbeing meets identity and a city moves together, the result isn’t corporate – it’s powerful.

The Shoot

This Manchester video production case study discusses our one defining creative decision:

Using real people, shooting with docu-style filmmaking and no actors.

We designed an inclusive casting process that reflected the real fabric of the city. From KPMG and JW Lees to chippy workers and Northern Quarter cleaners, we brought together people from every walk of life.

Instead of scripting performances, we asked questions. Instead of directing lines, we guided conversations.

The result was a street-level voiceover filled with wit, warmth and determination – the kind of people you’d chat to in a queue at Greggs.

Of course, this approach carries risk as non-actors don’t always feel comfortable on camera. Yet natural performances can’t be rushed and that’s exactly why it works.

We created a relaxed environment with simple prompts and space to breathe.

And as the days unfolded, something unexpected happened – real character arcs emerged, moving from pressure and nerves to laughter and pride.

From the living soundscape of Manchester – rain, trams, keyboards, fryers – to the quiet stillness after crossing the finish line, the film began to breathe on its own.

We consciously chose not to lean heavily on Manchester’s historical iconography, letting the people represent the city.

Production Highlights

• Multi-location filming across Manchester
• Corporate workplaces blended seamlessly with street-level participants
• Documentary-style interviews capturing unscripted emotion
• Dynamic running sequences contrasted with still meditation moments
• Agile shooting schedule across five intensive filming days

Time became the most underestimated factor.

Docu-style filmmaking demands patience, as authentic gestures cannot be forced. Sometimes the golden nuget moment comes after the planned take – in a glance, a laugh or a breath.

We also made a deliberate trade-off: capturing less footage than usual in order to protect trust and tone. We refused to compromise the “never staged, always felt” approach.

And that restraint gave the film its soul.

The Output

As the below Manchester video production case study details, we created a scalable content ecosystem.

One shoot, multiple edits, maximum impact.

We delivered:

• Hero Brand Film (campaign centrepiece)
• 4 x 30-second social ads (run-focused, meditation-focused, people-focused variations)
• Repurposed cutdowns for sponsor packages and sign-up campaigns
• Stills and behind-the-scenes assets for ongoing promotion

Every asset was designed for longevity. The hero film anchored the campaign premiered to the leaders of Manchesters business and local government.

The social edits maintained rhythm and visibility across the year – from corporates to charities, wellness groups to individuals.

This wasn’t a one-moment launch. It was a sustained movement.

The Impact

This Manchester video production case study shows this project wasn’t just about filmmaking. It was about creating a platform for connection.

The Greater Manchester Wellbeing Series gained momentum through:

• Strong employer engagement across the region
• Widespread participant sign-ups
• Sponsor interest driven by cinematic campaign assets
• A clear, emotionally resonant identity rooted in community

More importantly, it positioned the event as something bigger than an initiative.

At a time when digital content is increasingly saturated and over-produced, stories of real people connecting to do something meaningful together cut through.

This project reminded us that perfection isn’t always powerful – truth is.
